The Western region of Hungary is fast becoming a sought after area were Hungarians, Austrians,
Germans, British and many other nationals are looking to buy their ideal home or investment property.
We bought our home here in Zalaháshágy nearly a year ago and, also decided to set up business here as, the Hungarian people are very welcoming and encourage outside investment. For us the property we were looking for did not become apparent until we had seen the selection of houses, building plots and beautiful locations which were available here in the Western region of Hungary. We chose this area as friends from England had bought, about 2 years ago, a property just over the border in Slovenia about a 40 minute drive. We are also about 30 minute drive from Austria. Our property was purchased for approximately half of the price of our friends in Slovenia and there the cost of properties has risen considerably.

In Hungary we have also realised at least 10% increase in value since we purchased. Here in Western Hungary you can still purchase very reasonably priced properties and they are definitely an investment as many Germans, Austrians and even Swiss who live in our village will tell you. Most of them use them for holiday homes, as we are ideally situated to some great facilities and outdoor pursuits, and don't worry about the food you will find well known British supermarkets within easy reach by car or bus. There are other English living in the area, but we have not yet caught up with them.

We decided to purchase an older property for renovation and a touch of modernisation. We were fortunate that the property is habitable so we can work on it while we are living here. Our plan is to convert it to B&B with en suites while retaining as much of the original building and interior as possible. Outside we have over 4000ms of land, with vines, mature fruit and nut trees, and out buildings to work on, not to mention my extremely large cottage garden, great potatoes this year!
